FESTIVAL WRAPS ON ROCKY MOUNTAIN “HIGH”
NEW DEALMAKING ENVIRONMENT A HIT FOR PRODUCERS AND BROADCASTERS
The 26th Banff World Television Festival finished on an exceptionally high note Wednesday, when Brett Gaylor of Etherworks walked off with a $50,000 cheque for further development of Puff Daddy, a humorous and personal documentary project about a marijuana grow operation. Gaylor won first prize at the $100,000 CTV Documart, the richest pitch in the world. The $30,000 second prize went to Daniel Cross of EyeSteelFilm for Game Over: The Rise and Fall of Atari, about a video games visionary. The third place winner, Roxanne Gregory from Ronin Inc., took home $20,000 for her pitch Forgotten Lives, which will document the tragic mistreatment of institutionalized children in a B.C. facility.

Reality-television visionary Michael Geddes of Lone Eagle Entertainment has won the 2005 Lions Gate/Maple Pictures Innovative Producer Award. The Award, to be presented at the Banff World Television Festival June 12 - 15, celebrates innovation and entrepreneurial excellence in the Canadian television industry. Kevin Beggs, President, Lions Gate Television and Brad Pelman, Co-President, Maple Pictures Corp. will award $5,000 in prize money to Geddes at a special Awards Luncheon to be held on Monday, June 13th.

Mitsou Gélinas to host 2005 Banff Rockie Awards
Finalists Announced for Top Canadian Program Rockie Award
On Monday, June 13, 2005, the multi-talented Mitsou Gélinas will bring her trademark charm to the Banff World Television Festival as she hosts the 26th International Banff Rockie Awards Show, presented by CBC/Radio-Canada. The show is a celebration of excellence in international television programming. Of the 19 Canadian programs from around the world nominated for a Rockie, five have been selected as finalists for the Best Canadian Program, an award sponsored and coordinated by Playback.

Zuiker, creator and executive producer of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, will join the stellar line-up of Masters attending the Festival this June. A special “60 Minutes with Anthony E. Zuiker” will take place on Monday, June 13. In addition, Zuiker will present a tribute to Alliance Atlantis, co-producer and worldwide distributor (excluding the US) of the CSI franchise and winner of this year’s Global Television Outstanding Achievement Award at a special awards luncheon also scheduled for June 13.
