The Canwest Emerging Writer Program

The Canwest Emerging Writer Progam offers an unprecedented opportunity for screenwriters to gain significant insight into the demands of writing for series television. Up to five writers will participate in a professional development progam that will help them hone their creative skills and introduce them to a wide range of industry professionals working in series television. Partipants will have private classes with some of our Master Class speakers including:

• Stephanie Savage, Executive Producer/Co-Showrunner, Gossip Girl
• Hart Hanson, Creator/Showrunner, Bones
• Michael Poryes, Creator/Executive Producer, Hannah Montana
• and others TBC

The successful applicants will be invited to attend the Banff World Television Festival on a full access pass. Before attending BANFF, they will work on their series pitches and pitching techniques in one on one sessions with Program Director Tecca Crosby. At the Festival, they will have access to program events as well as attending seminars, pitch sessions and master classes designed especially for them. After the festival, they will be invited to meet with individuals working on current Canadian series productions to better understand the workings and expectations of writing for series television.
