Special Banff Television Festival Events Open to Bow Valley Residents
and Visitors
(Banff, Alberta, June 1, 2001) The Banff Television Festival is
pleased to announce that a special selection of events will be open
to the public during the 22nd annual Festival, which takes place
June 10 - 15 at the Fairmont Banff Springs. "This year we have
an outstanding line-up of public events, which include the opportunity
for Bow Valley residents and visitors to screen some of the best
television programs in the world," commented Pat Ferns, president
& CEO of the Banff Television Foundation. "We are also
pleased to offer as well for the first time, public screenings of
HDTV programs, programs produced in high definition."
The Banff Television Festival is a week-long event that attracts
close to 2000 television producers, broadcasters, and new media
professionals from around the world. Special seminars, workshops,
Master Classes, market simulations and keynote speakers are scheduled
along with the annual international Banff Rockie Awards competition
showcasing the world's best television programs and webcasts. Other
special awards presented this year include the Sir Peter Ustinov
Comedy Network Award to multi-award winning actor, Kelsey Grammer,
of the hit comedy series, Frasier, and the Lions Gate Award of Excellence
to Canadian filmmaker, Norman Jewison.

The 24-hour Video Library
Opens Saturday, June 9 at 9:00 p.m. and closes Friday, June 15 at
5:00 p.m.

Admission is free.
All the entries in the Banff Rockie Awards international competition
are available for personal screening, many of which have never been
seen before in Canada.

produced in HDTV will be screened.
International Jury of Peers

Students from three area schools and their peers from France,
Germany, the USA, and Ontario declare their choices for best Animation
and Children's programs from the entries into this year's program
competition.
Sony International Critics Screen BANFF 2001 Winners
Tuesday, June 12 to Thursday, June 14, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and
2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

A jury of seven international television critics will screen
the Festival award winners. Watch with them and participate in a
discussion at the close of each day.

Eco-Challenge
Admission: $20.00 (includes breakfast and gondola). Tickets available
at the Banff Television Festival office, 1350 Railway Avenue in
Canmore. During the Festival, tickets available at the Festival
registration desk in the Fairmont Banff Springs Convention Centre.
Angus Yates is an Emmy Award-winning producer and director who
executive produced the Discovery Channel Eco-Challenge, a reality-based
human adventure drama series for Discovery Networks.
Special HDTV Screening of the documentary, Moving Pictures
Wednesday, June 13, 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy a special screening of the documentary, 'Moving Pictures',
directed by Canadian filmmaker Colin Low and produced by Mark Zannis.
Over the course of a 50-year career, Colin Low has directed or produced
200 films, which garnered a remarkable nine Oscar nominations. In
'Moving Pictures', Low traces his growing awareness of war, the
perversion of art into propaganda, and the technological advances
that have led to more efficient creation and dissemination of images
- as well as more effective weapons of mass destruction.

Continuous telecast from Sunday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. to Friday,
June 15 at midnight.
