Star Presenters for 22nd Banff Rockie Awards Show
(Ottawa, Ontario, February 9, 2001) Pat Ferns, President and CEO
of the Banff Television Foundation, is pleased to announce that
the 22nd annual Banff Rockie Awards Show will be co-hosted by Vancouver's
Ian Hanomansing, anchor of CBC News: Canada Now, and
Montreal's Julie Snyder, now a talk-show host in France.
Presented by Alliance Atlantis Communications, the Banff Rockie
Awards Show takes place June 11, 2001 as part of the annual Banff
Television Festival.
"The Banff Rockie Awards Show is a celebration of excellence
in television and it is a great honour to have two outstanding Canadians,
both with stellar television careers, grace the stage at this year's
event," said Pat Ferns. "Our hosts will join a star-studded
line-up of talent for an evening that showcases the best television
in the world."
Ian Hanomansing is a trusted figure in the Canadian news industry
and currently host of the national early evening news program, CBC
News: Canada Now. His career with CBC Television began in 1988
where he started work as a news reporter for the British Columbia
bureau in Vancouver. An award-winning journalist, he has hosted
CBC Newsworld's Pacific Rim Report and anchored stories on
foreign assignment from the Philippines, Japan, and Viet Nam.
Hanomansing covers national, international, and breaking news stories.
He was on-site during the 1994 Vancouver post-Stanley Cup riot,
the 1992 Los Angeles riot, the 1989 San Francisco earthquake and
Exxon Valdez oil spill, the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and
the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. His new position as host of
CBC News: Canada Now, has made him a household name across
the country.
In Quebec, Julie Snyder is an icon in the late night talk-show
scene. During the run of her show, Le Poing J, she attracted
a viewership larger than that of any other Canadian talk-show. Having
recently moved to Paris to fulfill her lifelong dream of doing television
in France, Snyder hosted her own talk-show on the France 2 network,
entitled, Vendredi, c'est Julie. This led to the creation
of her daily show, Du Lundi au vendredi, c'est Julie. Now
France 2 and Snyder are working on the development of a third series.
Snyder's own production company, Les Productions J, has produced
and co-produced many Canadian shows including three specials featuring
Celine Dion, A Roch Voisine Christmas, and a documentary
show on Luc Plamondon. Although she currently pursues opportunities
in France, Snyder remains a highly successful and celebrated figure
in Quebec.
