CTV CANADIAN DOCUMART
A NEW BANFF 2001 PITCHING OPPORTUNITY
WIN $ 50,000, $30,000, $ 20,000!
BANFF 2001 and CTV Inc. have created an opportunity for makers of mainstream,
popular documentaries to win $100,000 in prize money. On Wednesday, June 13,
2001, during CTV Canadian Documart, the pitchers of the top three documentary
projects can win $50,000 for first place, and $30,000 and $20,000 for the two
runners-up.
The deadline for submissions was April 30, 2001, applications
are no longer being accepted.
An independent panel of judges will review all submissions and select six
finalists. During the CTV Canadian Documart the six finalists will each have
ten minutes in the spotlight to make their pitches to an assembly of commissioning
editors. These Canadian and international decision-makers will have an opportunity
to question each of the six finalists during the ten-minute "bear pit"
sessions. After all six have been grilled, the decision-makers will cast their
ballots, the results will be tabulated and the winners declared.
CONDITIONS:
- The pitching competition is open to:
a) Canadian independent producers, or
b) international independent producers who have a
Canadian partner.
- All projects pitched must be eligible to qualify as Canadian content under:
a) prevailing Government of Canada regulations, or
b) international co-production treaties.
- In the event that any of the winning programs are produced but
a) do not qualify as Canadian content, or
b) are not produced under a Canadian international
co-production treaty,
the development monies will be repayable, without interest, prior to first

in the future. If the project goes forward and meets the Canadian test, then
the prize money is a donation with no other strings attached.
- All short-listed finalists must be prepared to pitch their projects in person
and must be registered at BANFF 2001 for the relevant days.
- Individuals participating must be able to pitch their projects either in
English or in French - their choice.
- The only applications that will be considered are ones using the official
