Understanding America: Two in a Room: Part 2 - The Pitch

The United States of America is the world's largest media market. Understanding America is a strand exploring aspects of doing business with the USA and in the USA.

Since Monday when the two commissioning editors negotiated what type of programs they were willing to support, eager producers have been preparing to pitch their projects. This morning come and see the pitches and try to guess which short-listed project will take home a pay cheque. The winner will announced during the BANFF 2001 Closing Ceremonies.

CTV Canadian Showcase

The work and merchandise of 18 Canadian Distributors, Producers and Organizations will be featured in the CTV Canadian Showcase exhibition at BANFF 2001. The Showcase is located in the Main Ballroom of the Conference Centre in the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and will also be host to the Telus Cyber Café.

In addition, the Showcase will also provide additional meeting space for conference delegates as well as point of sale for festival merchandise. It will open at 9:00am each morning and close at 6:00pm each evening, except for Sunday evening when booths will be on display during the CBC Opening Reception from 6:30pm - 8:00pm.


HDTV Prize: Part 2 - The Pitch

Short-listed finalists, who were announced on Monday at HDTV Prize - Part 1, have an opportunity to pitch their high-definition projects. The winning project, which is elegible to receive up to USD$15,000. in funding from NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and Discovery Networks, USA to help develop a high definition television production, will be announced later in the day at the BANFF 2001 Closing Ceremonies.

Banff Centre New Media Focus: CyberPitch - Part 2

Short-listed finalists, who were announced on Monday at CyberPitch - Part 1, have an opportunity to pitch their new media projects. The winning project, which is eligible to receive up to $10,000. in development funding from Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, will be announced later in the day at the BANFF 2001 Closing Ceremonies.

CyberPitch is a concept developed by the Banff Television Foundation and The Banff Centre. The three official CyberPitch events that take place at BANFF, the Baddeck International New Media Festival, and at Hot Docs, all receive prizes courtesy of the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund.

Closing Ceremonies

The closing ceremonies of the 22nd Banff Television Festival will feature the announcement of the morning's pitching competitions, and the presentation of prizes for these awards, as well as for the CTV Canadian Documart, the Sony International Critics Prize and the Telefilm Canada APTN Aboriginal Awards. Master of Ceremonies Laurier LaPierre will guide us through the concluding formalities and end with his traditional invocation and benediction.

Lake Louise Excursion

Unwind after a wonderful Festival as you explore one of the jewels of the Canadian Rockies. Canoe, horseback ride, hike to a nearby tea house, shop or just sit and contemplate one of nature's most incredible sights. Buses leave The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel Convention Centre at 1:30pm and arrive at Lake Louise at 2:30pm. Buses leave The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise at 7:00pm to return to the The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.

Dress: Casual (appropriate to the activity - bring your hiking shoes and a weather-proof jacket)
